Applying for BOI investment promotion
The BOI grants incentives under the Investment Promotion Act B.E. 2520 to activities on its list of eligible categories. We check which category fits, prepare the project and the application; approval and conditions are decided by the Board.

Main steps
- Step 1
Check the activity category
Compare the planned activity with the current list of promoted categories. Each category has its own conditions and incentive group.
- Step 2
Check project conditions
For example minimum investment (excluding land and working capital), debt-to-equity ratio, machinery and location, as announced for that category.
- Step 3
File via e-Investment
Prepare project data, investment plan and company documents. An individual may apply first and incorporate later where the BOI allows.
- Step 4
Presentation and review
Officers may ask for a project presentation or more information. After approval, the resolution must be accepted within the set period before the promotion certificate is issued.
- Step 5
Comply after certification
Start using rights as prescribed, report progress and apply to start operations when ready. Breaching conditions can lead to revocation.
Common incentives (depend on the category)
- Corporate income tax exemption for the period and cap stated on the certificate; periods differ by activity group.
- Import duty exemption on machinery, or on raw materials for export, under project conditions.
- Non-tax rights such as land ownership for the business and bringing in foreign skilled workers or experts.
- Promoted companies may obtain a Foreign Business Certificate for the promoted activity.
Under current announcements the BOI charges no application fee, but check the latest notice. Our service fee is given separately in a written quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Is my business eligible?
It must be on the list of promoted categories and meet that category's conditions. Send us the activity details to check against the current announcement.
How many years of tax exemption?
It depends on the activity group and measure; the certificate states the period and cap. We do not promise a fixed figure in advance.
Can foreigners own 100%?
Many promoted activities allow full foreign ownership with a Foreign Business Certificate, but some categories still have limits — check per category.
Does BOI make work permits easier?
Promoted companies use the BOI system to request positions and work permits for foreign experts, but position and qualification conditions still apply.
What if conditions are not met?
The BOI may require correction, suspend or revoke rights, and exempted taxes or duties may have to be repaid.
How long does it take and what does it cost?
It depends on project completeness and the BOI's review; we do not promise a fixed period. Our fee depends on project size and is quoted after review. No guarantee of approval and no refund policy.
