Signature and document certification in Thailand

Thailand has no foreign-style Notary Public; certification is done by a Notarial Services Attorney licensed by the Lawyers Council. We help prepare documents, arrange certification and coordinate MFA or embassy legalization.

The certification steps

  1. Step 1

    Identify the certification type

Tell us whether you need a signature certification, a certified copy or an affidavit, and the destination country, because requirements differ.

  2. Step 2

    Prepare documents and ID

Prepare the original documents and the signer's ID; some documents must be signed in front of the certifying attorney.

  3. Step 3

    Sign and certify

The Notarial Services Attorney verifies identity, witnesses the signing and affixes the certification stamp under the Lawyers Council regulations.

  4. Step 4

    Legalize further if required

If the destination requires it, the documents go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for legalization, and in some cases to that country's embassy.

  5. Step 5

    Collect the documents

Check the stamp and certification wording before submitting to the receiving authority.

What to know before certifying

  • Thailand has no Notary Public as in other countries; certification is done by a Notarial Services Attorney registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand.
  • Certification confirms a signature or a copy, not the accuracy of the document's contents.
  • Thailand is not a party to the Apostille Convention; most documents for use abroad need MFA legalization and possibly the destination embassy's legalization.
  • Each receiving authority sets its own certification format; check the recipient's requirements before proceeding.

MFA official fees are published by the ministry. Our service fee is given separately in a written quotation.
