Does an IDP replace the Thai licence?

No. Under the road-traffic conventions an IDP is an official translation of the issuing country's licence, so the valid Thai licence must be carried with it at all times.

Geneva 1949 versus Vienna 1968 — what changes?

They are separate conventions with different member states, so the IDP form a destination accepts differs. Check which convention your destination is party to and request the matching form.

Can a certified translation replace an IDP?

Some jurisdictions accept a certified translation with the original licence, others require an IDP, and others require a local test. Rules are set by the destination's transport authority and can vary by state.

How is a vehicle registration book certified for use abroad?

Can a Thai driving licence be used abroad?
