NAATI certified translation

In-depth Q&A on NAATI-certified translation, organised by document type and receiving authority. — 3,920 questions in total (page 2/98)

What drives the cost of handling a birth certificate for US authorities?

The main drivers are the page count and text density of a birth certificate, the language pair, how many authentication layers US authorities requires, the number of sets, urgency, and the official fees set by a NAATI-certified translator. We do not publish prices on the site because cases genuinely differ and a generic figure would lead to wrong planning. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

How do I receive the certified a birth certificate — can it be shipped upcountry or abroad?

You can collect at the office, meet at an agreed pick-up point, or have the file shipped with tracking, domestically or internationally. For overseas shipping use a tracked service and give a recipient name matching your ID, as some countries scrutinise inbound official documents. We always photograph the finished a birth certificate set for your approval before dispatch, so you can verify it before it reaches US authorities. What is the step-by-step process for a birth certificate (NAATI certified translation) to be used with German authorities?

There are four stages: (1) verify that the original a birth certificate was issued by the competent authority and that names, document number and dates are legible; (2) prepare the translation or certification in the format German authorities accepts; (3) submit for certification by a NAATI-certified translator; (4) deliver and re-check everything before the actual filing. The most common delay is a name spelling that differs from the passport, so send a passport copy with the first submission. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

Which supporting documents are needed for a birth certificate when filing with German authorities?

The baseline set is: the original a birth certificate (or a copy certified by the issuing office), a copy of the holder's passport or ID card, and a power of attorney if someone else acts on your behalf. If German authorities prescribes its own form, the entries must match the source document character for character. Submit every page, including pages that only carry a seal, because a NAATI-certified translator certifies exactly the bundle presented. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

How long does a birth certificate take before it can be filed with German authorities?

Three variables drive the timeline: the readiness of the original a birth certificate, the certification queue at a NAATI-certified translator, and the intake schedule of German authorities. When the original is complete and no re-issue is required, drafting and certification usually run in working days, while government queues shift with filing season. We give you a realistic estimate once we have seen your documents, and we advise against booking flights or appointments before the papers are in hand. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

How long does a certified a birth certificate stay valid for German authorities?

The certification itself does not expire, but German authorities usually requires civil-status documents to have been issued within a set window before filing (commonly 3 or 6 months). What counts is the issue date of the original a birth certificate, not the certification date. If your filing date is still open, obtain the original as close to filing as possible and certify afterwards to avoid repeating the work. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

Into which language must a birth certificate be translated, and who certifies the translation for German authorities?

As a rule German authorities accepts a translation into the official language of the receiving country, or English where the rules allow it. Who may certify differs by destination: a translator accredited in that country, a NAATI-certified translator for Australia, or a translation certified through a NAATI-certified translator for Thai-issued papers. The translation of a birth certificate must reproduce document numbers, seals and signatures, and mark illegible text as such rather than guessing. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

How many layers of authentication does a birth certificate need before German authorities accepts it?

The standard chain for Thai documents is: issuing office → certified translation → a NAATI-certified translator → the embassy or consulate of the destination country, where still required. For a birth certificate used with German authorities, the number of layers depends on whether the destination is an Apostille state and what form it accepts. Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026 and the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027 (source: HCCH). During the transition, confirm with the receiving authority whether it already accepts an Apostille or still requires embassy legalisation. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

Why would German authorities reject a birth certificate, and how do you fix it?

Recurring causes: a name spelled differently from the passport, an original older than the window German authorities allows, an uncertified photocopy, a translation that drops a seal or document number, and an authentication chain done out of order. The fix is always upstream — obtain a fresh a birth certificate or have the issuing office correct the data, then repeat the chain. Never amend by hand: a NAATI-certified translator will not certify a document altered outside the official process. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

Can a birth certificate be handled for German authorities while I am overseas, without returning to Thailand?

In most cases yes: sign a power of attorney before a Thai embassy or consulate officer where you live, or before a local notary followed by the required onward authentication. Then courier the original a birth certificate and the power of attorney to us; we complete certification with a NAATI-certified translator and send the file back to your address. The exception is any step where German authorities requires the holder to appear in person, which we check case by case. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

My name on a birth certificate differs from my passport — will German authorities still accept it?

Align them before filing, because German authorities treats the passport as the primary identity reference. Options: (1) ask the issuing office to correct a birth certificate if it is a recording error; (2) obtain a same-person certificate and have it certified through a NAATI-certified translator; or (3) use the passport spelling in the translation with a transliteration note. Which route is accepted varies by destination, so confirm before starting. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

Does German authorities accept a scan or copy of a birth certificate, or only the original?

Certification must always be based on the original a birth certificate or a copy certified by the issuing office. Scans are fine for an initial assessment and for drafting the translation. For the actual filing, some German authorities channels let you upload first and inspect originals at the appointment. The safe approach is to keep the original ready and to retain one spare certified set. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

I need a birth certificate urgently this week for German authorities — is that possible?

Sometimes, depending on whether the original a birth certificate is already in hand and whether a NAATI-certified translator is running an expedited channel that week. What speeds things up most: send photos of every page for a pre-check, tell us your exact German authorities appointment date, and prepare the power of attorney in advance. If your deadline is not achievable we say so plainly rather than risk your appointment. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

I need several certified sets of a birth certificate for German authorities — how should I plan it?

Tell us the number of sets at the start, because adding sets later means running the whole chain again. We generally suggest one spare beyond what you need, since German authorities usually keeps the filed set. If the documents will be used in more than one country, prepare separate sets per destination — the certification format at a NAATI-certified translator and the translation requirements can differ. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

NAATI Certified Translation Knowledge Base

Common questions about NAATI-certified translation for Australian submissions, answered from the destination authority's published practice. (241+ search topics covered)

Can I get the file again later if I lose it?

Yes, within the retention period stated in our data policy. Provide the name used at ordering and the approximate date, and we resend the original file or produce extra printed copies without re-translating.

Which Thai documents do you translate most often?

Birth certificates, household registrations, ID cards, marriage and divorce certificates, name-change certificates, academic transcripts and degrees, driving licences, employment letters, bank statements and police clearance certificates. Each has a standing terminology template for consistent output.

Can you translate a Thai police clearance certificate for Australia?

Yes. Obtain the certificate from the Royal Thai Police Special Branch first, then send the freshly issued copy for translation. Check the validity window the receiving authority applies, as many accept only recently issued certificates.

Is your translation accepted by the Department of Home Affairs?

Documents translated by NAATI-credentialed translators are the format expected for Australian visa, citizenship and skills-assessment lodgements. We format the file as original plus translation in one PDF so it can be uploaded directly in ImmiAccount without extra requests.

How should I scan my documents?

Use colour at 300 dpi or higher, capture the full page including margins, avoid shadows across text, and scan the reverse of any page bearing a seal. Phone photos are acceptable if taken flat, straight on and under even light.

Are translations made outside Australia accepted?

Australian immigration guidance requires translations prepared outside Australia to show the translator's full name, address, contact details and qualifications, while translations made in Australia must come from a NAATI-certified practitioner. Always check the requirement published on your filing date.

Is a PDF enough, or do I need a printed certified copy?

Online lodgements normally accept a PDF carrying the translator's stamp. Counter submissions, education providers and state road authorities sometimes ask for a printed set, so order one spare hard copy if the requirement is unclear.

The original document contains an error. What do you do?

We translate what appears and flag the discrepancy to you. If the information is genuinely wrong, ask the issuing authority to correct and reissue the document, then we translate the corrected version.

Practical Q&A

Practical questions · Near me / DIY / Required documents

Must NAATI translation be done inside Australia?

No. NAATI is Australia's certification system for translators and interpreters, and a certified practitioner can work from anywhere, so the stamp is valid when produced outside Australia. The Department of Home Affairs does require translations made outside Australia to show the translator's full name, address, contact details and qualifications, so always confirm the receiving authority's wording requirements first.

Can I translate the document myself and have a bilingual friend certify it?

In practice this is refused. Visa authorities and universities generally require an independent third-party translator — not the document owner or a relative — and Australian bodies usually specify a NAATI certified translator by name. Self-translation risks rejection and a full resubmission cycle.

What should I send the translation team for a first-time pass?

Full-page colour scans that are sharp and uncropped, including reverse sides bearing seals; the exact English spelling of names as printed in your passport; and the destination authority (visa, university, professional board), because certification wording and how the source document is referenced differ by recipient.
Practical advice & cautions

NAATI-certified translation: what to prepare and what gets rejected

Before you start
  • Tell us whether the translation is produced inside or outside Australia

The Department of Home Affairs applies different rules: translations made in Australia must be done by a NAATI-certified translator, while translations made outside Australia must show the translator's full name, address, telephone number and qualifications on the translation.

  • Send full-page colour scans, front and back

Scan at 300 dpi or better so seals, signatures, document numbers and reverse-side text are legible. Anything unreadable must be marked as illegible in the translation, which commonly triggers a request for further documents.

  • You can verify the translator yourself

A compliant translation carries a stamp with the practitioner's certification number and expiry date. You can check that number against NAATI's online register and confirm the certification is current on your lodgement date.

  • Match name spelling to the passport, letter for letter

Names on the translation must match the passport page you will submit rather than a fresh transliteration. Send a copy of the passport bio page with every order.

Common reasons documents get rejected
  • Leaving parts of the document untranslated

Seals, signatures, footnotes and reverse-side text are part of the document. Translations that omit them are commonly rejected.

  • Name mismatch across the document set

If the name on the translation does not match the passport or other documents in the same application, the authority will ask for linking evidence such as a change-of-name certificate.

  • Reusing an old translation after the source was reissued

If the original has been reissued or amended, the earlier translation no longer matches what you lodge. Always translate the exact version you will submit.

  • Assuming NAATI replaces legalisation

NAATI certifies the translator's credential, not the document. Where the destination also requires consular authentication, that is a separate step.

Requirements differ by authority and destination country and can change. Confirm current conditions with the receiving authority, or ask our team by phone, LINE or email.
