Notarial Services Attorney certification

In-depth Q&A on document certification by a Notarial Services Attorney in Thailand. — 3,920 questions in total (page 4/98)

My name on a birth certificate differs from my passport — will Singaporean authorities still accept it?

Align them before filing, because Singaporean authorities treats the passport as the primary identity reference. Options: (1) ask the issuing office to correct a birth certificate if it is a recording error; (2) obtain a same-person certificate and have it certified through a Notarial Services Attorney; or (3) use the passport spelling in the translation with a transliteration note. Which route is accepted varies by destination, so confirm before starting. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

Does Singaporean authorities accept a scan or copy of a birth certificate, or only the original?

Certification must always be based on the original a birth certificate or a copy certified by the issuing office. Scans are fine for an initial assessment and for drafting the translation. For the actual filing, some Singaporean authorities channels let you upload first and inspect originals at the appointment. The safe approach is to keep the original ready and to retain one spare certified set. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

If the documents will be used in more than one country, prepare separate sets per destination — the certification format at a Notarial Services Attorney and the translation requirements can differ. What is the step-by-step process for a birth certificate (Notarial Services Attorney certification) to be used with UAE authorities?

There are four stages: (1) verify that the original a birth certificate was issued by the competent authority and that names, document number and dates are legible; (2) prepare the translation or certification in the format UAE authorities accepts; (3) submit for certification by a Notarial Services Attorney; (4) deliver and re-check everything before the actual filing. The most common delay is a name spelling that differs from the passport, so send a passport copy with the first submission. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

Which supporting documents are needed for a birth certificate when filing with UAE authorities?

The baseline set is: the original a birth certificate (or a copy certified by the issuing office), a copy of the holder's passport or ID card, and a power of attorney if someone else acts on your behalf. If UAE authorities prescribes its own form, the entries must match the source document character for character. Submit every page, including pages that only carry a seal, because a Notarial Services Attorney certifies exactly the bundle presented. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

How long does a birth certificate take before it can be filed with UAE authorities?

Three variables drive the timeline: the readiness of the original a birth certificate, the certification queue at a Notarial Services Attorney, and the intake schedule of UAE authorities. When the original is complete and no re-issue is required, drafting and certification usually run in working days, while government queues shift with filing season. We give you a realistic estimate once we have seen your documents, and we advise against booking flights or appointments before the papers are in hand. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

How long does a certified a birth certificate stay valid for UAE authorities?

The certification itself does not expire, but UAE authorities usually requires civil-status documents to have been issued within a set window before filing (commonly 3 or 6 months). What counts is the issue date of the original a birth certificate, not the certification date. If your filing date is still open, obtain the original as close to filing as possible and certify afterwards to avoid repeating the work. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

Into which language must a birth certificate be translated, and who certifies the translation for UAE authorities?

As a rule UAE authorities accepts a translation into the official language of the receiving country, or English where the rules allow it. Who may certify differs by destination: a translator accredited in that country, a NAATI-certified translator for Australia, or a translation certified through a Notarial Services Attorney for Thai-issued papers. The translation of a birth certificate must reproduce document numbers, seals and signatures, and mark illegible text as such rather than guessing. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

How many layers of authentication does a birth certificate need before UAE authorities accepts it?

The standard chain for Thai documents is: issuing office → certified translation → a Notarial Services Attorney → the embassy or consulate of the destination country, where still required. For a birth certificate used with UAE authorities, the number of layers depends on whether the destination is an Apostille state and what form it accepts. Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026 and the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027 (source: HCCH). During the transition, confirm with the receiving authority whether it already accepts an Apostille or still requires embassy legalisation. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

Why would UAE authorities reject a birth certificate, and how do you fix it?

Recurring causes: a name spelled differently from the passport, an original older than the window UAE authorities allows, an uncertified photocopy, a translation that drops a seal or document number, and an authentication chain done out of order. The fix is always upstream — obtain a fresh a birth certificate or have the issuing office correct the data, then repeat the chain. Never amend by hand: a Notarial Services Attorney will not certify a document altered outside the official process. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

ยืนยันแหล่งอ้างอิงแล้ว

Can a birth certificate be handled for UAE authorities while I am overseas, without returning to Thailand?

In most cases yes: sign a power of attorney before a Thai embassy or consulate officer where you live, or before a local notary followed by the required onward authentication. Then courier the original a birth certificate and the power of attorney to us; we complete certification with a Notarial Services Attorney and send the file back to your address. The exception is any step where UAE authorities requires the holder to appear in person, which we check case by case. For the exact fee and turnaround for your case, please contact our staff by phone, LINE or email.

Service Knowledge Base

Notarial Services Attorney (Notary Public) Knowledge Base

Common questions about signature and document certification by a Notarial Services Attorney in Thailand, and the follow-on MFA legalisation step. (64+ search topics covered)

Does Thailand have notaries public?

Not in the common-law sense. Thailand uses “Notarial Services Attorneys” — licensed Thai lawyers who complete the training and registration required by the Lawyers Council of Thailand under the Royal Patronage under its 2008 regulation on the registration of attorneys certifying signatures and documents. Their certificates carry the attorney's licence number so the receiving authority can verify them.

What does a company need to bring?

A company affidavit or certificate of incorporation issued within the destination's accepted window, ID or passport of the authorised director, the company seal if the articles require it, and a board resolution when the transaction requires one. Directors must sign in front of the attorney; pre-signed documents can only be handled as certified copies.

How are fees calculated?

By certification stamp — per document or per signature — not per page. Government charges such as consular legalisation and embassy fees are separate line items paid at official receipt value. Out-of-office and after-hours appointments carry a travel or overtime component. You receive a written total before any work starts.

Is a notarial certificate enough for use abroad?

Often not on its own. Many receiving countries also require legalisation by the Department of Consular Affairs and/or that country's embassy. Confirm the required chain before the first step so the set does not have to be reissued.

Affidavit or statutory declaration — which one do I need?

Both are written statements confirmed before an authorised person. Affidavits use sworn wording and appear mostly in litigation; statutory declarations use declared wording and appear mostly in administrative matters such as confirming status or a relationship. We follow the form the receiving authority prescribes and never draft wording beyond what the deponent actually knows.

Can Thailand issue an apostille yet?

Not yet. Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the 1961 Apostille Convention on 2026-06-30, and per the HCCH depositary notice the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Until then Thai documents follow the two-step consular route. We plan document timing around whichever route applies on your filing date.

What if the destination rejects the document?

If the rejection stems from something on our side — a typo, wording that does not match the instruction you gave us, or a missing certification layer — we redo the work at no service charge. New government fees follow the official tariff. Decisions that are within the discretion of the receiving authority remain outside our control.

Can you certify copies of my passport for an overseas bank account?

Yes, with the original passport presented. Many banks require the certificate to be within three months and to use specific wording such as “certified true copy of the original seen by me”. Send us the bank's form or instruction email before the appointment so the wording matches exactly.

Practical Q&A

Practical questions · Near me / DIY / Required documents

Where can I find a notary public near me in Thailand?

Thailand has no US/UK-style notary public. The authorised signatory is a “Notarial Services Attorney” licensed by the Lawyers Council of Thailand under Royal Patronage, so the work must be done at a firm with such a licensed lawyer. Our main offices are Lat Phrao 95 (Bangkok), Khon Kaen and Udon Thani, with meeting points near BTS/MRT stations and city malls. Ask our team by phone, LINE or email for the most convenient point.

Can I notarise a document myself without a firm?

No. Only a lawyer holding the Lawyers Council notarial-services licence may certify. What you can prepare yourself is the paperwork: the correct original or true copy, and your ID. Signature certification requires you to sign in front of the attorney, so do not sign the document in advance.

Which documents do I need to bring for notarisation?

At minimum: (1) your original passport or Thai ID card; (2) the exact document version you will submit; (3) for company signatories, a company affidavit dated within the period your recipient accepts, plus the seal if used; (4) the destination country and receiving authority, because the wording of the certificate and any onward steps (for example whether MFA legalisation is needed afterwards) depend on the destination.
Practical advice & cautions

Notarial services in Thailand: advice and cautions

Before you start
  • The signer must sign in front of the attorney

Signature certification confirms the signature was made in person, so bring a valid original ID card or passport and do not sign the document in advance.

  • Bring original documents, not photos or scans

A certified true copy must be compared against the original in person. If the original is abroad or lost, obtain a certified reissue from the issuing authority first.

  • Confirm whether you actually need a notary

Requests described as notarisation are often really consular legalisation of a government document or certification of a translation. Clarifying this first avoids repeated work.

  • Add a translation for foreign-language documents

If the document will be used with Thai authorities or filed at an embassy, prepare a translation alongside it to avoid follow-up requests.

Common reasons documents get rejected
  • Assuming Thailand has a common-law notary public

It does not. Certification is performed by a Notarial Services Attorney registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand. If your recipient specifically requires a Notary Public, confirm in advance that they accept this form of certification.

  • Expecting an apostille issued in Thailand

Thailand is not a party to the Apostille Convention. Documents for overseas use follow authentication by the Department of Consular Affairs and the destination embassy instead.

  • Believing certification validates the content

Certification covers facts observed in person — that the person signed, or that a copy matches the original. It does not certify that the statements are true or legally effective abroad.

  • Expired ID or mismatched name spelling

Names must match your passport. If you changed your name or the spelling differs, bring the supporting change-of-name evidence.

Requirements differ by authority and destination country and can change. Confirm current conditions with the receiving authority, or ask our team by phone, LINE or email.
