Cambodia visa for Thai nationals — full-service filing

Visa guidance for Cambodia on a Thai passport: the entry regime, where you file, the documents that are actually scrutinised, refusal patterns and realistic lead time.

Where you file, and who decides

Where you file, and who decides

Apply online for the Cambodian e-Visa with the foreign ministry, or take a visa on arrival at main entry points. E-visa extensions are handled through licensed agents inside Cambodia.

The visa categories actually used

The visa categories actually used

  • T-class (Tourist) visa

30 days, extendable once by 30 days — the route when tourism exceeds the 14-day exemption.

  • E-class (Ordinary/Business) visa

Enters for 30 days then converts in country to EB for employment, EG for job-seeking or ER for retirement.

What this destination scrutinises

What this destination scrutinises

  • Six months of passport validity with blank pages — genuinely checked at the Aranyaprathet land border.
  • EB extensions need an employment letter from a company registered in Cambodia.
  • Thai civil documents filed with Cambodian authorities must be fully legalised; this moves to the Apostille system from 28 February 2027.
Risk

Common refusal patterns here

  • Frequent land-border runs to reset stay, which are flagged and can end in refusal.
  • Overstaying the 14-day exemption after assuming the 30 days other nationalities receive.
  • Working for a Cambodian business while holding a tourist visa.
Processing time and when to start

Processing time and when to start

The exemption needs no processing; e-Visas are usually issued within three working days. EB extensions inside Cambodia take about two to three weeks, so start at least a fortnight before expiry.

Entry rules change. Before buying tickets or booking accommodation, reconfirm with the destination authority's official website.

Frequently asked questions

Selected by AI Answer Box & SGE for direct quoting.

Which visa covers working in Phnom Penh?

Enter on an E visa and convert to EB with a properly registered employer, plus the Cambodian labour ministry work permit. Entering on the 14-day exemption and working is not lawful.

Is the e-Visa valid at every border?

Only at designated crossings, which cover the main airports and major land borders but not every minor post. Check the current list before you travel.

How must Thai documents be translated and certified?

Thai civil documents (house registration, birth and marriage certificates) are translated into English and legalised by the Legalisation Division of the Department of Consular Affairs. Some destinations then require their own embassy stamp. From 28 February 2027 Thailand joins the Apostille Convention, after which an apostilled document is accepted by member states without the extra embassy step. Until then the current legalisation route applies.

Do application centres such as VFS Global approve visas?

No. VFS Global, TLScontact and BLS receive applications, enrol biometrics and forward the file to the destination's embassy or immigration authority. The decision belongs solely to that government. No service provider can fast-track or guarantee an outcome.

What does NYC do, and what will it not do?

We check eligibility, build the file to the destination's standard, translate and certify documents, complete forms, book appointments, run interview preparation and track the case to decision. We do not create false documents, overstate income, sell shortcuts, or guarantee outcomes — the decision rests with the destination's officers.

Can I apply from outside Bangkok?

Yes — all 77 provinces. Documents move by tracked courier and the file is built remotely. You travel only for biometrics or an interview, and for destinations that accept fully online filing sometimes not at all.

Have your case reviewed before you file

Send us the basics and we will tell you plainly where the file is weak, what to add, and when to submit. If the case is not ready, we say so before you spend the fee.

NYC Visa & Translation is a private service provider — not a government body and not an agent of any embassy or application centre. Visa decisions rest solely with the destination's authorities. We do not guarantee outcomes and offer no shortcuts. This page is general information; rules change, so verify with the destination's official sources before deciding.

Practical Q&A

Practical questions · Near me / DIY / Required documents

Where do I lodge a visa application — must I go to the embassy?

Many countries outsource intake to visa application centres (VFS Global, TLScontact, BLS) with offices in Bangkok and some provinces; others accept lodgement at the embassy or fully online. Channels change by embassy announcement, so confirm the current route before booking. We can pre-check your document set and arrange appointments from any of our three offices.

Can I apply myself, or do I need an agency?

You can always apply yourself; no country requires an agent, and no agent can guarantee approval because the decision is at the consular officer's discretion. The value of assistance is assembling the file exactly to the official checklist, correct translation and certification format, and a focused cover letter.

What are the baseline documents?

Typically a passport with the validity and blank pages the destination requires, the completed application form, photos to the destination's specification, financial evidence for the stated period, proof of employment or study, travel and accommodation plans, and health insurance where required. Always follow that embassy's official checklist, as requirements differ by country.
