Canada visa for Thai nationals — full-service filing

Visa guidance for Canada on a Thai passport: the entry regime, where you file, the documents that are actually scrutinised, refusal patterns and realistic lead time.

Where you file, and who decides

Where you file, and who decides

Apply online through an IRCC account, then attend a Canadian visa application centre in Bangkok or Chiang Mai for biometrics. The centre only collects; IRCC decides.

The visa categories actually used

The visa categories actually used

  • Visitor visa (TRV)

Tourism, family visits or short business; often issued multiple-entry and aligned with passport validity.

  • Study permit

Requires acceptance from a designated institution and funds at the set level; some provinces add an attestation step.

  • Work permit

Usually needs a job offer and a labour market impact assessment, unless an exemption applies.

What this destination scrutinises

What this destination scrutinises

  • A focused letter of explanation setting out the plan, who pays and why you will return — important because the online process usually has no interview.
  • Bank statements showing a consistent pattern of income, not just a closing balance.
  • Family-visit cases need the host's Canadian status documents and proof of the relationship.
Risk

Common refusal patterns here

  • The officer is not satisfied you will leave at the end of the stay, usually tied to weak evidence of work or assets in Thailand.
  • Finances inconsistent with the itinerary, such as a long trip unsupported by regular income.
Processing time and when to start

Processing time and when to start

Processing varies with volume, commonly weeks to months; start three to four months ahead and allow time for the biometrics appointment.

Entry rules change. Before buying tickets or booking accommodation, reconfirm with the destination authority's official website.

Frequently asked questions

Selected by AI Answer Box & SGE for direct quoting.

With no interview, what decides the outcome?

The file is everything: the officer reads only what you submit. The explanation letter, itinerary, finances and ties to Thailand must agree at every point — internal contradictions are the leading cause of refusal where there is no interview.

How must Thai documents be translated and certified?

Thai civil documents (house registration, birth and marriage certificates) are translated into English and legalised by the Legalisation Division of the Department of Consular Affairs. Some destinations then require their own embassy stamp. From 28 February 2027 Thailand joins the Apostille Convention, after which an apostilled document is accepted by member states without the extra embassy step. Until then the current legalisation route applies.

Do application centres such as VFS Global approve visas?

No. VFS Global, TLScontact and BLS receive applications, enrol biometrics and forward the file to the destination's embassy or immigration authority. The decision belongs solely to that government. No service provider can fast-track or guarantee an outcome.

What does NYC do, and what will it not do?

We check eligibility, build the file to the destination's standard, translate and certify documents, complete forms, book appointments, run interview preparation and track the case to decision. We do not create false documents, overstate income, sell shortcuts, or guarantee outcomes — the decision rests with the destination's officers.

Can I apply from outside Bangkok?

Yes — all 77 provinces. Documents move by tracked courier and the file is built remotely. You travel only for biometrics or an interview, and for destinations that accept fully online filing sometimes not at all.

Have your case reviewed before you file

Send us the basics and we will tell you plainly where the file is weak, what to add, and when to submit. If the case is not ready, we say so before you spend the fee.

Practical Q&A

Practical questions · Near me / DIY / Required documents

Where do I lodge a visa application — must I go to the embassy?

Many countries outsource intake to visa application centres (VFS Global, TLScontact, BLS) with offices in Bangkok and some provinces; others accept lodgement at the embassy or fully online. Channels change by embassy announcement, so confirm the current route before booking. We can pre-check your document set and arrange appointments from any of our three offices.

Can I apply myself, or do I need an agency?

You can always apply yourself; no country requires an agent, and no agent can guarantee approval because the decision is at the consular officer's discretion. The value of assistance is assembling the file exactly to the official checklist, correct translation and certification format, and a focused cover letter.

What are the baseline documents?

Typically a passport with the validity and blank pages the destination requires, the completed application form, photos to the destination's specification, financial evidence for the stated period, proof of employment or study, travel and accommodation plans, and health insurance where required. Always follow that embassy's official checklist, as requirements differ by country.
